"I am always astounded by Julie's amazing knowledge, gathered through her own very profound healing journey. Who better to learn from than someone who has regained health in such a miraculous way through creating secure-attachment with her parts. She is such an inspiration. I find her balance of professionalism, clarity and humanness so supportive, and she is so generous in attending to everyone's needs. She has such a genuine desire to support others' healing and I feel blessed to be able to learn from her."

Questions covered in the Additional Q&A

0.35 How do you deal with asking for help from a person who has an unhealthy Helper? They want so desperately to help, their self-worth seems to be dependent on it, but also they will complain about the person if they change up or move away from the type of help they originally wanted, or the situation doesn’t go as the helper planned. As if it had to be their way for parts of the help or no way. A lot of “why do I bother” type complaints. That doesn’t feel like help to me!

This is said to me with regard to the other people the person helps, not directly to me. But the feeling whilst this person helps me is still there. Am I better to just recognise that texts like: “I am always here to help” don’t necessarily mean that at face value? I continue to say, “please don’t worry if not” and “it’s totally OK if you can’t”. But it’s as if I’ve posed the person a challenge then. Or triggered some FOMO! Not asking this person for help is the best option when this triggers and overwhelms me. But as I heal, I’m keen to be authentic and ask for help as it is seemingly being offered. I’m just not willing to give people who want to help, full control.

7.11 In the workshop you talked about phrases you use when you don’t want to help anybody or postpone your decision whether to help or not – what are these?

9.37 I have to ask my husband for emotional and practical support much more due to this illness than I would if I were healthy. I feel this might fall into the category of unhealthy receiving (on my part) or unhealthy giving from his side. He doesn’t complain, but I do feel guilty about it sometimes. How would you recommend navigating this?

14.53 My parents were my role models for poor giving and receiving, and I feel this has been limit and expectations. As I consider your workshop, I have parts which are afraid of abandonment and judgement if I change anything, what do you recommend?
